Day 1: Coastal Wonders and Scenic Drives

Cape Town’s dramatic coastline is a must-see.

Muizenberg Beach

Start your day at this famous beach known for its colorful huts and surf-friendly waves. Stroll along the shore, watch surfers in action, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere.

Kalk Bay

This charming fishing village is perfect for a coffee stop or a visit to its quirky shops and galleries.

Simon’s Town

Explore the rich maritime history of this naval base. Its quaint streets and harbor views offer plenty of photo opportunities.

Boulders Beach

No trip to Cape Town is complete without seeing the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Watch these adorable birds waddle along the sand and swim in the turquoise waters.

Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point

Experience the dramatic cliffs and breathtaking views at these iconic landmarks. A short hike takes you to the lighthouse for panoramic vistas.  Not to worry, if you are unable to walk, there is a funicular that will take you to the top. https://capepoint.co.za/

Chapman’s Peak Drive

End your day with a midafternoon or sunset drive on this scenic coastal route, known for its hairpin bends and stunning ocean views.

Day 2: History, Heritage, and Stunning Beaches

Robben Island

Start your day with a morning tour of Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. A former political prisoner will guide you through the site, sharing personal stories of resilience and hope. https://www.robben-island.org.za/

V&A Waterfront

After returning to the mainland, explore the lively Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. This bustling area offers shopping, dining, street performers, and breathtaking harbor views. This is also the gateway to sunset cruises and helicopter rides. You can book in advance or simply approach any of the boats and helicopter.

Camps Bay

Relax at Camps Bay Beach, famous for its palm-lined promenade and trendy cafes. Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and the stunning Twelve Apostles Mountain backdrop.

Clifton Beach

Just a stone’s throw away, Clifton’s four beaches provide a quieter, more exclusive beach experience. Choose your perfect spot and unwind by the sea.

Day 3: Table Mountain Sunrise Hike

Table Mountain Hike

Set your alarm for 6:00 AM and embark on an early morning hike up Table Mountain. The views of the city waking up below you are worth every step. The hike takes 1.5 to three hours. It took us exactly 1.5 hours, but it was a challenging hike.  We stopped along the way to rest our legs many times.  The views are better than you can imagine. You can see all the way to Cape of Good Hope.  It’s amazing!!! https://www.tablemountain.net/

Cable Car Down

Take the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway down for a panoramic descent — a perfect reward after the climb.

Day 4: Wine Farms and Culinary Delights

Hire a private driver to enjoy the Western Cape’s world-renowned wine region.  The region is incredibly beautiful, especially the mountain range of Franschhoek.  Although Stellenbosch is closer to Cape Town, it might take you an extra 15 to 30 minutes to Franschhoek and it is totally worth it.  There are so many wine farms to choose from; I don’t think you can go wrong.  We started our day at about 9:30 am from Cape Town and arrived about 10:30 am to Franschhoek. We leisurely explored three wine farms.  The number of farms will depend on your pace.  Each wine farm does charge for the tasting and will depend on the quality of the wine you select.

Klein Goederust

This boutique winery offers a cozy, intimate wine-tasting experience with exceptional hospitality.

Anthonij Rupert

Known for its elegance, the estate’s tasting room and wines impress with sophistication and quality.

Delaire Graff Estate

Save the best for last. Renowned for its luxury, stunning art collection, and exquisite wines, this estate is a feast for the senses.

Dining Experiences

Notable restaurants that are very good are:

  • Gold Restaurant: Enjoy a sensory journey of African cuisine, drumming, and storytelling.
  • The Nine: Perfect for a elegant seafood dining experience.
  • The Bungalow: Toast to your adventure with ocean views and an upscale ambiance.

Day 5: Helicopter tour & Sunset Cruise

Keep this day a bit more relaxed but we took a Helicopter tour to get an aerial view of this gorgeous city.  We had a shared ride with three other people. The fit was a bit tight so if you appreciate your space, we recommend booking a private tour.

We sealed the day with a beautify Sunset Cruise along the harbor and we were so lucky as the sun was super vibrant and we watched as it disappeared beyond the horizon.
